6 Tips for Tiling a Kitchen
Have you been thinking about updating your kitchen? Are you planning on renovating your kitchen walls with a newly tiled splashback or re-tiling your kitchen floor? If so, then this article is perfect for you.
As we explained in our 6 Tips For Tiling A Bathroom article, tiling is a great way to create a stylish feature throughout your home and add value to your property! However, it can be tough to know which tiles to pick and what styles to consider when creating the kitchen of your dreams, right?
That’s why we’ve prepared this article to explain our top tips for selecting tiles for your kitchen.
1. Use The Right Tiles
This one may seem obvious but it’s extremely important that you use the right tiles. You need to ensure they’re the right tile based upon your project needs and what part of the kitchen you want to tile.
At Tile & Stone Gallery, we stock a large collection of ceramic and porcelain tiles that are perfect for the kitchen. However, they all have different properties which you need to be aware of. For instance, while ceramic tiles are very affordable, they are not suitable for tiling on floors and should only be used for tiling walls. In contrast, porcelain tiles are very hard wearing, and for this reason, they work perfectly on floors (although, they can be used on the wall, too!)
2. Use Patterned Tiles
Using patterned tiles in your kitchen is an easy way to add some unique detail to your home or make a bold statement. In the kitchen, patterned tiles can be easily used to create splashbacks which will elevate your decor and add a decorative touch. Additionally, they’re perfect for adding a contemporary or vintage-inspired look to your room and letting your personality shine through. We recommend using our Charnwood range to achieve this look in your kitchen.

Shaped tiles are great for creating stunning, subtle patterns in your kitchen. By adjusting the placement of the tile, you can create an appearance that looks clean and contemporary with limited effort and on a tight budget. Our favourite tile for creating this look in your kitchen is Sherwood.
4. Create Space With Light Colours
Just like bathrooms, light coloured tiles can be used to create the appearance that the room is bigger than it is and help your kitchen feel spacious. Additionally, by using a soft neutral tile like our Austria range, you will add a calming atmosphere to your kitchen that you’ll love.
5. Do You Remember the 10% Rule?
As we’ve mentioned before, when undertaking a tiling project, there will inevitably be wastage, unfortunately. Due to this, we always recommend that you add an additional 10% to the number of tiles you need to ensure your project can be completed in full and without delays.
